Alex Armstrong is ready for a change in his life. Suffering from a broken engagement, he takes on the task of pastoring the churches of All Saints and Hilltop Community Church. He quickly realizes he has a lot of learning to do. There’s his secretary Gandy Dunn, whose brother is close to losing his farm. Little Will Packard is trying to save every hurt/abandoned animal he comes across, stirring up trouble with some of the other residents. Alf Nyborg can’t let go of his past and it’s causing him to push his wife and children away. Mattie Olson has a flair for the dramatic and often bursts into Alex’s office, asking for his help. Everyone is depending on Alex and he’s not sure he’s up to the challenge. Did he bite off more than he can chew? Or is he exactly where God wants him to be?
I really enjoyed this book. I found the humor refreshing and the place of Hilltop to be a place I would like to visit. The characters are written in such a way that I feel as if I know them and I look forward to their stories continuing in other books.
