book review: "my foolish heart" by susan may warren

Isadora Presley has barely left her home for the past two years. Her family was in a car accident, claiming the life of her mother and injuring her father but she was physically unharmed. Instead, she’s been a prisoner in her home, suffering from agoraphobia. She secretly hosts an online radio show called Miss Foolish Heart. This allows her to connect with the world she’s retreated from. Her world gets turned upside down when a new neighbor moves in. Caleb Knight has come to town to teach at the high school and hopefully become the new football coach.

Isadora wants to befriend her new neighbor but their friendship has gotten off to a rocky start. When a guy calls in to her radio show, asking for help to winning over his neighbor, she tells him to do the things she would like to see happen next door. When Caleb mows his yard, stops parking in her flowers and manages a haircut, Isadora doesn’t make the connection. She’s scared to let Caleb in but he has his own secrets. Is it possible for these two neighbors to find common ground? For them to help each other through their past?

I’ve read a few of Warren’s other books and was excited to read this one. She didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. Though the general plot was predictable, I liked the few surprises woven into the story. The theme of not quitting just because life turns out differently than you’d expect is something good to remember. What stood out to me is when Seb admits to his father he quit football after his injury. His father told him to simply find something he loves to do and go after it. Warren is on my list of favorite authors and has only secured herself on that list with this newest read.

I received a copy of this book from Litfuse Publicity Group and all opinions are my own.
